When we want to ask how long it takes to do certain thing, we can simply ask “ How long does it take? “
需要多少时间？  
or
需要多长时间？

If we want to ask “ How long does it take to do something?”
The sentence pattern is :  do something 需要多少时间？

For example,
完成这幅画需要多少时间？
How long does it take to finish this painting?

完成这个项目需要多少时间？
How long does it take to finish this project?
