A Character a Day 一日一字 -- 汉 hàn

Simplified character:  汉
Traditional character:  漢

The original meaning of this character refers to the biggest branch of Changjiang River (Yangzi River),  Hanshui River. It was a remote and bare place for the political prisoners exiled by the government.

The following video lesson will show you some of the most common compound words about this character.  It will be a nice lesson for Chinese learner to practice listening and improve vocabulary the same time.

Little Apple -- A Pop Song

Today I am going to introduce a new pop song, Little Apple, which is quiet popular recently in China. The following video will show you the version I like the most. It is sung by a French girl, whose Chinese name is Jin Xiaoyu (金小鱼jīn xiǎo yú ). She is one of the most popular foreign stars who became famous in China's TV show.

The original singers of this song is a well-known band called Chopstick Brothers (筷子兄弟 kuài zi xiōng dì ). Nowadays you will hear this song everywhere in China.

The Disco style of the song and the easily remember lyrics also makes this song quite popular for people who like exercise. This following video will show you a type of dance for exercise, which is called Square Dance (广场舞 guǎng chǎng wǔ ). Sometime dozens, hundreds, even thousands of people are seen dancing the same time.

The lyrics of the song:

小苹果
xiǎo píng guǒ
Little Apple
gē cí
lyrics:
wǒ zhòng xià  yì kē zhǒngzi     zhōngyú zhǎng chū le guǒshí
I planted a seed. Now it's time to see the fruit at last.

jīntiān shì ge wěidà rìzi
Today is a great day.

zhāi xià xīngxing sòng gěi nǐ    zhuài xià yuèliang sòng gěi nǐ
I will pick the stars for you, and  pull down the moon for you

ràng tàiyang měitiān wèi nǐ shēng qǐ
Let the sun rise up for you everyday

biàn chéng làzhú ránshāo zìjǐ     zhǐ wèi zhào liàng nǐ
I'd rather become a candle burning myself to light up you

bǎ wǒ yí qiè dōu xiàn gěi nǐ    zhǐ yào nǐ huān xǐ
Devote all myself to you to make you happy

nǐ ràng wǒ měi ge míngtiān dōu biàn de yǒu yìyi
Everyday will become meaningful because of you

shēngmìng suī duǎn ài nǐ yǒng yuǎn  bù lí bú qì
Life is short, but we will be together forever

nǐ shì wǒ de xiǎo a xiǎo píngguǒ
You are my little apple

zěn me ài nǐ dōu bù xián duō
No matter how much love I give to you, I still think that's not enough. ( I will never stop loving you.)

Your shinning red face warms my heart

diaň liang̀ wǒ shenḡming̀ de huǒ
You light the fire of my life

nǐ shì wǒde xiaǒ a xiaǒ pinǵ guǒ
You are my little apple

jiù xiàng tiān biān zuì měi de yún duǒ
You are the most beautiful cloud in the sky

chūntiān yòu lái dào le   huā kāi mǎn shānpō
Spring is here again, blooming flowers cover the hillside

zhòng xià xīwàng jiù huì yǒu shōuhuò
The seed of hope will grow into harvest one day.

The Legend of Wang Xizhi

Wang Xizhi ( 303–361) ) is one of the most famous calligraphers in Chinese history. He lived in the Jin Dynasty (265-420).  He was regarded as the sage of calligraphy. His calligraphy, especially his running script calligraphy, was most precious for anyone who is interested in Chinese calligraphy. Tang Taizong, one of the emperors of Tang Dynasty, loved his calligraphy so much that he ordered lots of copies of his work. It's also said that Wang Xizhi's most famous work, the Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion was buried with the emperor in his mausoleum. So nowadays people can only enjoy the copies of the original one.
The following video from ChinaX will give you more detail of the legend of Wang Xizhi and his well-known Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion.
