一辈子的十分钟 Farewell My Dear Mother

  The name of this song is 一辈子的十分钟 (yībèizi de shí fēnzhōng). Literally it means ten minutes in my whole life. A young soldier is going home to see his mother. But he only has very short time to hug her, then he needs to go back to the battle field again.

传奇 (chuánqí) is one of my favorite songs. It is about a type of beautiful and vague love, a love happens in one person's mind when s/he just see another one in the crowd. S/he feels that they have met before and falls in love and can never forget that short but specially charming experience, even maybe the two will never meet again.

Here is another female vocal version of this song. The singer is also my favorite, 王菲(Wángfēi), also known as Faye Wang. Her voice is really beautiful.

Writing basic character 王 wáng

王 wáng is a very interesting character. It's simple but full of BIG idea.
The basic meaning of 王wáng is king. Why?  Some sayings is that the top first horizontal stroke represents the heaven, the second middle  horizontal stroke represents the mortal world, the third bottom horizontal stroke represents the underworld, and the center vertical stroke represents the ability to communicate between those different world. That's why this character means KING. 

王 is also a very common family name in China. Maybe you will wonder whether all those people named 王 are descendants of the kings in ancient China. The answer is some of them are.  But there were also many people who changed their family name as 王 for all kinds of reasons. Such as, some family were granted the surname 王 because they had made important contribution to the country; while some other changed their surname to 王 just for trying to escape from the enemy who was in power.
